Spring 2010
TE 803 Professional Roles and Teaching Practice II Mike Sherry I was enrolled in TE 803 in the spring semester of my 5th year student teaching internship at Michigan State. This course was an extension of TE 801 from the fall semester and it that focused on the roles of teachers. For the final project called; Turn Helpful Inquiry into New Knowledge (THINK), I focused on differentiated instruction in my 8th grade Eastern Hemisphere internship placement. I wanted to learn how to challenge advanced students while helping struggling students at the same time. |
TE 804 Reflect and Inquiry in Teaching Practice II Claire Yates I was enrolled in TE 804 in the spring semester of my 5th year student teaching internship at Michigan State. This course was an extension of TE 802 in the fall semester and it focused on our first hand teaching experiences. The major assignment throughout the semester was the 20 questions assignment. Each question was a possible interview question in which I had to reflect upon my teaching experiences. This assignment was very helpful while applying for jobs that spring. |
Fall 2013
CEP 810 Teaching for Understanding with Technology Kimberly Powell and Michelle Schira Hagerman This was my first Counseling and education psychology (CEP) course towards my Master of Arts in Educational Technology. This course focused on five foundational topics: learning theories, essential mindsets, professional learning networks, Technology Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) and creative uses of learning technologies. The culminating assignment was the learning project: where I had to choose something to teach myself via online resources. I choose to teach myself how to make a fondant flower. My end result was not as good as I expected but I was able to reflect upon my learning. |
CEP 811 Adapting Innovative Technology to Education Craig McMichael and Michelle Schira Hagerman CEP 811 used research to assess a variety of instructional technology methods in a K-12 setting. A major theme throughout CEP 811 was the maker movement. I learned how to use a maker kit such as the Squishy Circuits, SketchUP and created a lesson plan using Universal Design for Learning. Each week I learned a new technology skill. My favorite assignment was the scholarship of teaching and learning assignment because it was a practical assignment where I choose to research instructional techniques for my English for Speakers of Other Languages population. I appreciated that I was able to research a topic I would use in my career. |
Spring 2014
CEP 812 Applying Educational Technology to Issues of Practice William Marsland and Michelle Schira Hagerman CEP 812 was a required course for the Educational Technology Certificate Program. This course focused on a range of technologies to address teaching and education-related problems. One of the major assignments was the on going “Wicked Problem” group project. My group decided to reimagine teaching in the 21st century through project-based learning. |
CEP 820 Teaching K-12 Students Online Anne Heintz and Sandra Sawaya CEP 820 was about teaching students online. The primary goal throughout the whole course was to create a course management system (CMS). I created a CourseSite for my World Geography class. While my school changed contents and I no longer teach World Geography, I appreciated learning how to create a CMS. With 11 snow days during the 2013-2014 school year, I appreciated knowing how to stay connected with my students while not physically in the classroom. |
